Mounting Kits, Brackets, and Accessories

Commercial and industrial lighting fixtures come in a wide range of configurations, and the mounting hardware included (or required) varies by product. Some fixtures arrive ready to install with everything in the box, while others call for specific mounting kits, brackets, or accessories that are purchased separately.

This article explains how to figure out exactly what hardware your fixture needs, and how to find it in our catalog.

Always Start with the Spec Sheet

The fixture spec sheet is the authoritative source for what is included with your fixture and what mounting options are available for it. Before you order, download and review the spec sheet for the fixture you are considering. The spec sheet will typically list:

  • What is included in the box (standard fasteners, gaskets, canopies, etc.)
  • Available mounting options (pendant, surface, wall, trunnion, yoke, etc.) and the part numbers of the accessories needed for each
  • Any compatible brackets, kits, or accessories sold separately

Once you know the part numbers you need from the spec sheet, search our catalog for those part numbers to locate the matching mounting hardware.

What's Usually Included vs. Sold Separately

Again, the spec sheet is the source of truth, but in general:

Often Included:

  • Set screws and fasteners for standard mounting
  • Outlet box adapters for common ceiling or wall applications
  • Gaskets and weather seals on outdoor fixtures

Often Sold Separately:

  • Pendant / stem / aircraft cable suspension kits
  • Surface-mount adapters for fixtures designed for recess mounting
  • Wall brackets, trunnions, yokes, slip fitters
  • Seismic bracing and anti-sway cables
  • Canopies and special trims

How to Identify What You Need

Before buying accessories, answer these questions:

  1. Where are you mounting? Ceiling, wall, pendant, or surface?
  2. What is the mounting surface? Drywall, concrete, metal studs, T-bar grid, existing outlet box?
  3. Any special requirements? Adjustable aiming, vibration damping, high-temperature rating?

Then check the fixture spec sheet for the accessories that match your answers, and use those part numbers to find the items in our catalog.

Common Scenarios

Pendant fixture over an island or work area
Typically requires a pendant / suspension kit (canopy, cable or stem, electrical connector). The fixture spec sheet will call out the specific pendant kit part numbers that are compatible with that fixture. Always verify pendant hardware requirements on the spec sheet. Pendant hardware is not universally interchangeable between fixtures.

Wall sconce on a non-standard surface
May require a surface-mount adapter or specialized bracket. Check the fixture spec sheet for compatible options.

Linear fixture along a long run
May need intermediate support brackets in addition to end mounts, especially for spans over 6 feet. See the fixture spec sheet for spacing requirements.

Recessed fixture in a standard outlet box
Usually comes with the required mounting hardware. Verify on the spec sheet.
