Restocking Fees on Returns | RelightDepot

Restocking Fees

When you return a product, a restocking fee may apply depending on the item and the circumstances. Here's how it works.

When Restocking Fees Apply

Restocking fees are charged by the manufacturer or vendor when a product is returned in saleable condition but is no longer needed. They cover the cost of receiving, inspecting, and restocking the item.

You may be charged a restocking fee when:

  • You ordered the wrong product and are returning it (your error, not ours)
  • You ordered more than needed and are returning the excess
  • You changed your mind after receiving the order
  • You ordered a product you no longer need due to a project change

Restocking fees vary by vendor. The most common fee is 15 to 25% of the product's purchase price, but some vendors charge more or less.

When Restocking Fees Do NOT Apply

No restocking fee is charged when:

  • The product arrived damaged (carrier damage)
  • The product arrived defective (manufacturing defect)
  • We shipped the wrong item (our error or the vendor's error)
  • The order is cancelled before it ships

In these cases, we handle it as a defect, damage claim, or shipping error, not a standard return.

How to Find Out Before You Return

Before initiating a return, contact us and we'll tell you exactly what restocking fee applies to your item. Fees are determined by the vendor's return policy, and they vary.

Contact us at:

  • Email: support@relightdepot.com
  • Phone: 888-548-6387, Mon to Fri, 8 AM to 8 PM ET

Do not ship a return without an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). Returns shipped without an RMA may be refused or may take significantly longer to process.

How Restocking Fees Are Applied

If a restocking fee applies, it will be deducted from your refund. So if you paid $400 for a product and the restocking fee is 20%, your refund would be $320.

You'll see the restocking fee amount disclosed before you finalize the return.

Tips to Avoid Restocking Fees

  • Double-check part numbers, wattage, voltage, CCT, and mounting type before ordering.
  • If you're unsure whether a product is right for your application, contact us before you order. We'd rather help you get the right product the first time.
  • For large orders, consider ordering one unit first to verify compatibility.
